My lunch date

This afternoon Chad stayed home with the little boys so that I could spend some time up at Owen's school. My first stop was to join Owen for lunch. Apparently, if you have a lunch guest you get to eat out in the courtyard and pick a friend to eat with you. Owen was not aware of the latter of these 2 perks. So when I walked up to him in line and his teacher asked, "Owen, who would you like to eat lunch with you today?" He shyly reached out for my hand and said softly "My mom". His little face was just so sweet, like he had picked me out of all the people in the world to dine with that day!
After lunch I helped set up for the back to school party that started at 5:00 and then volunteered in the library for the rest of the afternoon. Mostly I reshelved books,( good ol' Dewey, he and his decimals never did make much sense to me!) I found this exercise to be most rewarding and relaxing. I just Love books, and it was like taking a trip down memory lane. I reshelved a Helen Keller biography - that story fascinated me when I was in elem. school. I also discoverd that it was rewarding to be given a task that I could complete within a given time and then say : " I'm finished, is there anything else that you would like for me to do?". Maybe this is what is so exhausting about being a mom. Your job never stops. As soon as the dishwasher is run, the sink is full for the next go round. Before you can even get the laundry put away, there are 3 more loads to wash. You are never really finished. And then of course there's the children, they're not exactly a 6 week, turn them in and see how you did project! But a moment like today in the lunch line makes it all worth while!

What a sweet son. What a cool thing to be able to eat lunch at school with him. Maybe this makes the transition a little easier? I don't know.

As I put in my nth load of laundry, I am thinking a nice shelving of library books would be nice.
